The Prince William school administrators in Washington D.C. are proposing a list of required reading material on a grade-by-grade level, which would then be taught to the entire county's students, according to The Washington Post. On May 23, an article entitled, "School Officials Ponder Required-Reading List," appeared in The Washington Post and discussed the effects this proposal would have on teachers and students. Lucy Calkins, professor of education at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, Columbia University, commented that this plan may leave slower readers behind and would not challenge more advanced readers since each student has individual needs.
