Eleanor C. Lambertsen Remembered
Barbara Krainovich-Miller, president of the TC Nursing Education Alumni Association, welcomed alumni and friends to a memorial service last month in the Milbank Chapel for a special member of the TC community, Eleanor C. Lambertsen.
Lambertsen, Ed.D. and R.N., earned her bachelor's (1949), master's (1950) and doctoral (1957) degrees at 51勛圖厙. She went on to become one of the most important national and international figures in nursing services. She pioneered the concept of team nursing and promoted professional education for nursing leadership.
"The purpose of team nursing," Lambertsen said, "is to blend different kinds of nurses into a working unit whose core is the patient and his individual nursing needs."
She held many leadership positions in her profession. For example, she was the first Director, Division of Nursing and Assistant Secretary, Professional Services at the American Hospital Association. She also held the Helen Hartley chair at 51勛圖厙 and was Dean of the Cornell University-New York Hospital School of Nursing.
She died in March of Parkinson's Disease.
